WHAT PHASE 4 OF PROVINCIAL REOPENING PLAN MEANS FOR HOCKEY

As Nova Scotia moves to Phase 4 of its reopening plan today, we have been working with the province to clarify what this means for hockey.

The key change from Phase 3 to Phase 4 is: One group of up to 59 is now permitted in the field of play.

We have put together this graphic that provides a detailed breakdown. We encourage you to work closely with your local facilities throughout these reopening phases. If you have any questions, please contact your local regional director or email info@hockeynovascotia.ca.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR HOCKEY

During Phase 4 of the reopening plan, players, coaches, and officials can practice, train, and compete with up to 59 people in the field of play without social distancing. You are reminded that the field of play refers to the ice surface, team benches, penalty box, timekeeper’s box, and dressing room.

Hockey Nova Scotia applied for and received special exemption from the province and Sport Nova Scotia to allow for a group of this size to be permitted in the field of play. This will allow for competition between two teams.

TOURNAMENTS

Tournaments are permitted if they are run by or affiliated with Hockey Nova Scotia (or a Hockey Nova Scotia member) and follow the Rebound Plan. If you are a non-member group and want to host a tournament in Phase 4, please contact Hockey Nova Scotia (info@hockeynovascotia.ca).

SPECTATORS

Spectators are permitted but capacities vary by facility. Please check with your local rink.

REBOUND PLAN

During Phase 4, any on-ice sessions or games must follow the Rebound Plan. This means that all on-ice activities must have a safety rep, as well as a screening registry.

MASKS

On the ice, masks are not required during practices, training sessions, and games. Off the ice, masks will be required. Please note that coaches and instructors who work with more than one group must wear a mask at all times while inside the facility (including while on the ice).

REASONS TO BE OPTIMISTIC

This is exciting news for our game and we are feeling very optimistic about the upcoming hockey year.

Please continue to be vigilant and follow the protocols that are in place as we continue to plan for a safe and successful 2021-22 hockey season.

As always, we appreciate your support and your dedication to safety. We hope you are enjoying the summer!
