Women and girls who want to try officiating have two chances to get certified next weekend!

Hockey Nova Scotia will be hosting two all-female officiating clinics on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the RBC Centre in Dartmouth: a New Level 1 clinic for first-time officials, and a New Level 2 clinic for those ready to take the next step.

Every game in Nova Scotia needs officials, and there is no better way to learn the job than alongside women in stripes who started where you are.


WHO CAN REGISTER

New Level 1: Officials must be at least 12 years old as of December 31, 2026. Level 1 is the entry point, covering the Introduction and Recreational levels of play.

New Level 2: Officials must be at least 15 as of December 31, 2026, or have completed two seasons at Level 1. Level 2 develops core procedures and rule knowledge for the lower levels of competitive hockey.


BEFORE YOU SIGN UP

Every new official needs a Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) account and must complete the Hockey Canada Intro to Officiating course, an on-demand course that takes about three hours and costs about $20. Finish it before the clinic; it is required for registration.

Officials who will be 18 or older as of December 31 also need a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening, due by Dec. 1.

HOW TO REGISTER

Pre-registration is mandatory. Sign up at the link below and reach out to the Referee-in-Chief of your local Minor or Female Hockey Association to let them know you are coming; they will get you your first games once you are certified.
