STATEMENT FROM HOCKEY NOVA SCOTIA

Our board of directors and staff are aware of recent allegations of racism in our sport.
We find these allegations to be deeply disturbing.
We want to be very clear: There is no place for racism in hockey or in our society. We stand with all of our members who have been on the receiving end of discrimination.
The establishment of the Hockey Nova Scotia Diversity & Inclusion Task Force, the creation of a permanent Diversity & Inclusion seat on our board of directors, and the launch of the Future of Hockey Lab are just the beginning of our work when it comes to making hockey more welcoming and inclusive.
But we know there is still much that needs to be done.
Our Diversity & Inclusion Task Force’s final report listed nine recommendations for enhancing inclusion in hockey. Our new Diversity & Inclusion Committee is now striving to make these recommendations a reality in our game.
We are committed to doing the hard work and having the uncomfortable conversations.
If you hear a racist or discriminatory comment on or off the ice, speak up.
Call it out.
Report it.
It does not belong in hockey.
Signed,
