SAVANNAH NEWTON JOINS HOCKEY NOVA SCOTIA TEAM

Hockey Nova Scotia is pleased to announce the appointment of Savannah Newton as High Performance Female Coach.
Originally from Sackville, N.S., Newton was a member of the Boston University Terriers Division 1 Women’s Hockey Team for four years as well as a four-year member of the Team Canada National Development Program. A former professional player in Sweden, she held the position of Head of Hockey Development and Coach for Prolympia Private School in Sweden from 2018-2019.
The Hockey Nova Scotia position involves recruitment and development of female coaching staff for the U16 and U18 provincial, along with leading a female coaching professional development series and an athlete enhancement program for female players in conjunction with Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic.
Part of Newton’s role will involve identifying opportunities to grow the female game and supporting Female Council initiatives.
“We have heard from our members over the years that a role like this is essential for the growth of the female game,” said Amy Walsh, executive director of Hockey Nova Scotia.
“Savannah’s impressive hockey resume and experience in our programs make her the perfect candidate to join our team.”
In addition to these responsibilities, through a partnership with the Dalhousie University Women’s Varsity Program, Newton will work as an assistant coach with the Dalhousie Tigers team.
“Savannah will be a tremendous addition to the Dalhousie Tigers program. She commands instant respect based on her playing background, but has also shown a tremendous work ethic in preparing for practices and has a natural pulse on what the players are looking for on a daily basis,” said Troy Ryan, head coach of the Dalhousie Tigers Women’s Varsity Team.
Hockey Nova Scotia would like to congratulate Savannah on her new role and welcome her to our team.
