NEW MARITIME MAJOR U18 FEMALE HOCKEY LEAGUE FRANCHISE AWARDED

DARTMOUTH – Hockey Nova Scotia announced today that a Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League (MMFHL) franchise has been awarded in Region 3.

After a thorough selection process, an entry from a group consisting of Jordan Burke (team operator) and Devin Hartnell (team president) was selected as the winning bid for the region. This region includes the Metro East Female Hockey Association boundaries, as well as the boundaries of Bedford and Sackville. The team replaces the Action Benefits Penguins in the region.

Hockey Nova Scotia began soliciting bids in April.

The franchise will be branded as the Lindsay Surge and the team will begin operations during the upcoming 2024-25 MMFHL season. The team operators will bring impressive resumes of both professional and hockey experience to their new team.

“The Lindsay Surge leadership group is dedicated to the development and success of their players and the league,” said Hockey Nova Scotia Female Council chair Leijsa Wilton.

“Working alongside league president Paul Carroll and the new league executive, we look forward to collaborating with the team to grow the female game in our province."

The Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League is the top Female U18 league in the Maritimes and is made up of teams from Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

Hockey Nova Scotia and the Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League (MMFHL) executive would like to congratulate Jordan Burke and Devin Hartnell on their winning bid and wish the Lindsay Surge the best of luck next season.
