MARANDO RECEIVES JACQUES COMEAU AWARD

Hockey Nova Scotia is proud to announce that Metro East Inferno U15 AA coach Jennifer Marando is the winner of our 2025 Jacques Comeau Coach of the Year Award.
The Jacques Comeau Coach of the Year Award is presented annually to the province's rep team coach of the year. It is named in memory of longtime minor hockey coach Jacques Comeau who passed away in 2014. Jacques was a volunteer with the Halifax Hawks Minor Hockey Association for many years, and was known for always exhibiting the qualities of dedication, respect and fair play while behind the bench.
A non-parent volunteer and full-time teacher, Jenn Marando brings a unique and impactful coaching style to the Inferno bench—one that blends educational insight with deep compassion and leadership. Her ability to connect with her players, understand their individual learning styles, and clearly communicate expectations has created a supportive and inclusive environment where every athlete feels valued.
Jenn has been instrumental in fostering a strong, family-first team culture that emphasizes personal growth, community involvement, and leadership both on and off the ice. From weekly yoga sessions, off-ice training, and video reviews to planning memorable team-building activities, Jenn goes above and beyond to ensure her players experience more than just the game.
Under her leadership, the U15 AA Inferno enjoyed tremendous success this season, winning tournaments and a provincial championship.
Off the ice, Jenn has championed programs like the First Shift and player/goalie development initiatives, while empowering her players to be role models in the community—mentoring younger athletes, supporting local university women’s hockey teams, and raising funds for the IWK Children’s Hospital.
On behalf of everyone at Hockey Nova Scotia, we would like to congratulate Jennifer Marando on receiving the 2025 Jacques Comeau Coach of the Year Award.
