MACINNIS WINS BERNIE LAWLOR MEMORIAL COACH OF THE MONTH AWARD

In October, Hockey Nova Scotia's Minor Council was pleased to award the Bernie Lawlor Memorial Coach of the Month Award to Cape Breton West Hockey Association coach Krista MacInnis.
Last season, while coaching in Inverness, Krista recognized the need to get more players on the ice in her area. She took it upon herself to apply for the NHLPA First Shift Program on behalf of the Cape Breton West Minor Hockey Association.
After being awarded a program for her community, Krista brought together a team of volunteers to welcome over two dozen new players to the game in Inverness County. She was instrumental in every facet of the program. From coordinating ice times and fielding questions, to supporting new hockey families and strategizing coaching plans, Krista has helped to ensure the success of Inverness’ First Shift program.
Krista, a former Saint Mary’s University goaltender and 2004 Atlantic University Sport champion, has always been a major advocate and champion for the female game both locally and at the provincial-level. Now, thanks to her hard work, passion, and dedication, her volunteer efforts are helping to make a difference in the lives of dozens of young people in Inverness County.
The Bernie Lawlor Memorial Coach of the Month Award is named after the late Bernie Lawlor. Lawlor was a long-serving member of the Hockey Nova Scotia Minor Council and dedicated hockey volunteer. The award was introduced in 2018 and is presented to exceptional teachers of the game who have helped make our sport better.
Hockey Nova Scotia and the Hockey Nova Scotia Minor Council would like to congratulate Krista on her award and thank her for her volunteer efforts this season.
