MACDONALD RECEIVES 2026 CLARY MACDONALD MEMORIAL AWARD

Hockey Nova Scotia announced today that Greg MacDonald, head coach of the Halifax Hawks U13 AAA team, is the recipient of the 2026 Clary MacDonald Memorial Award. This award, named in honour of the late Clary MacDonald, a dedicated hockey volunteer, recognizes our coach of the year.

This season, MacDonald led the Hawks to a memorable finish, capturing the Minor U13 Atlantic Championship on home ice in Halifax in April.

Beyond the success on the ice, those who know him say MacDonald exemplifies everything this award represents: a long-term commitment to player development, a dedication to team spirit, and the values of fairness, sportsmanship, and respect for opponents, officials, and parents alike.

Throughout the season, Coach Greg made a point of connecting with every player in practices and during games to ensure each one felt supported and valued. His focus extends well beyond hockey skills. He is passionate about building character and confidence in his players as they grow, setting clear expectations for conduct at games, rinks, and on the road that help shape better young people.

Demanding yet fair, Coach Greg promotes fair play and playing within the structure of the team rather than individual showmanship. His leadership and mentorship have left a lasting impression on his players, their families, and the Halifax hockey community.

On behalf of everyone at Hockey Nova Scotia, we would like to congratulate Greg MacDonald on being awarded the 2026 Clary MacDonald Award.
