COACHING STAFFS FOR 2027 CANADA WINTER GAMES ANNOUNCED

Hockey Nova Scotia is proud to announce the coaching staffs selected to lead the province’s male and female hockey teams at the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Quebec City. The event marks a historic return to the birthplace of the Canada Games, 60 years after the inaugural event was held in Québec in 1967.

Following a province-wide call for applications last summer and a thorough interview and selection process, Hockey Nova Scotia has finalized two experienced groups of coaches who will guide Team Nova Scotia through the next 15 months of preparation.

Leading the male program will be Head Coach Kyle MacLennan of the Weeks U18 Majors program in the Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League. He will be joined by Assistant Coaches Zach MacQueen, from the King’s-Edgehill School’s boys varsity hockey program, and Liam Heelis, of the Acadia Axemen (Atlantic University Sport) and a former assistant coach with the Halifax Mooseheads.

On the female side, Head Coach Cameron Scott of the King’s-Edgehill School girls varsity program will lead the team, supported by Assistant Coaches Robyn Leblanc of the Cape Breton Lynx of the Maritime Major Girls U18 Hockey League and Madison McClure, a former Northern Subway Selects coach who is now with the Rothesay Netherwood School girls program. The trio brings extensive experience in our high performance program and will play a key role in preparing Nova Scotia’s top female athletes for the 2027 event.

The 2027 Games mark the fourth time Quebec has hosted the Canada Games. The Games were previously held in Québec in 1967, Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean in 1983, and Sherbrooke during the 2013 Summer Games. As Canada’s largest multi-sport event for young athletes, the Canada Games play a major role in athlete development and represent the pinnacle of interprovincial and territorial sport competition.

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to congratulate the newly named coaching staffs. We look forward to supporting both teams as they begin their journey toward Quebec City in 2027.
