CHEVERIE JOINS HOCKEY NOVA SCOTIA AS HIGH PERFORMANCE FEMALE COACH

DARTMOUTH – Hockey Nova Scotia is proud to announce the hiring of Kori Cheverie as our new High Performance Female Coach. Cheverie will be responsible for leading the development and planning of all female high performance on-ice curriculum for camps and events. She will also support Hockey Nova Scotia’s Female Council in growing and developing girls’ hockey throughout the province.
A three-time Atlantic University Sport first team all-star with Saint Mary’s University as a player, Cheverie has an impressive coaching resume, having won gold medals as an assistant coach at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, as well as at the 2021 and 2022 IIHF Women’s World Championships. She also won a gold medal in 2019 as an assistant coach with Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team.
In 2016, she became the first female full-time assistant coach in Canadian university men’s hockey history when she was hired by the Ryerson Rams. She also holds the distinction as the first woman to serve as a coach with one of Canada's national men's teams, something she accomplished at the 2022 IIHF U18 World Championship.
"Kori's track record in the game speaks for itself," said Mike Field, Hockey Nova Scotia executive director. "She is an accomplished coach who has achieved incredible success at the international level, and we are very excited to have her bring that experience and expertise to Hockey Nova Scotia. Kori will be a great asset to the Hockey Nova Scotia High Performance Program and to the development of women’s hockey in our province."
As the Hockey High Performance Female Coach, Cheverie will also lead a training program in partnership with Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic, aimed at targeted high performance athletes. She will establish and implement a female coaching program designed to promote opportunities for female coaches at U15 and U18 elite female levels, and also serve in an advisory role with Hockey Nova Scotia Female Council.
In March, Cheverie helped lead Nova Scotia’s Canada Winter Games women’s team to its first-ever women’s hockey medal thanks to a silver medal finish. It was the province’s first hockey medal at the event in more than four decades.
Please join us in welcoming Kori Cheverie to the Hockey Nova Scotia family.
