CHEVERIE CAPTURES PWHL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Walter Cup is heading back to Nova Scotia!
New Glasgow native Kori Cheverie has guided the Montreal Victoire to their first-ever Walter Cup, leading the club to a 4-0 victory over the Ottawa Charge on Wednesday night to clinch the best-of-five Professional Women's Hockey League final three games to one.
It was a historic win for both the Montreal club and for Cheverie.. The Victoire became the first Canadian team to capture the Walter Cup, and Cheverie became the first female head coach to win the PWHL championship.
It is the latest milestone in a coaching career that has been full of them. Before taking the reins in Montreal, Cheverie served as Hockey Nova Scotia's High Performance Female Coach, helping develop the next generation of female players and coaches across the province.
During her time with Hockey Nova Scotia, she helped lead the province's women's team to a silver medal at the 2023 Canada Winter Games, the province's first-ever women's hockey medal at the event and its first hockey medal of any kind there in more than four decades.
A three-time Atlantic University Sport first team all-star as a player with Saint Mary's University, Cheverie has built a very impressive resume in the game. She has won gold as an assistant coach at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, the 2021, 2022 and 2024 IIHF Women's World Championships, and the 2019 IIHF Women's Under-18 World Championship.
She is also a trailblazer behind the bench. In 2016, Cheverie became the first female full-time assistant coach in Canadian university men's hockey history with the Ryerson Rams, and in 2022 she became the first woman to serve as a coach with one of Canada's national men's teams at the IIHF U18 World Championship.
Now she can add a professional championship to that list.
Huge congratulations on the win, Kori. The entire Hockey Nova Scotia family is incredibly proud of you.
