A Nova Scotian netminder will be back between the pipes for Canada on home ice this week.

Stellarton's Sam Berthiaume has been named to Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 Team for the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. The event takes place from Aug. 3-8 at Rogers Place and the Downtown Community Arena in Edmonton.

Berthiaume is the lone Nova Scotian on this year's roster. Last November, Berthiaume represented Canada at the 2025 U17 World Challenge in Truro. Berthiaume and Team Canada White brought home silver from the tournament.

The Stellarton product put together a strong season with the Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Hockey League last year and made his QMJHL debut with the Cape Breton Eagles in January.

Canada opens the tournament against Switzerland on Aug. 3 at 5 p.m. MT (8 p.m. Atlantic), followed by Slovakia on Aug. 4 and Sweden on Aug. 5, with the medal games set for Aug. 8. The Hlinka Gretzky Cup annually showcases the world's top under-18 talent, and this summer, one of them is ours.
