For the past five seasons, dozens of young newcomers to Nova Scotia have been experiencing their new country through its favourite game.
This is the story of the Hockey Nova Scotia-ISANS New Canadians Hockey Program.

Sharing your stories
After 16 months of listening and learning, the Hockey Nova Scotia Diversity and Inclusion Task Force released its final report and recommendations on making the game more welcoming in April 2021.
Launched in December 2019, the mandate of the task force was to produce a set of recommendations to eliminate racism, discrimination and abuse in hockey, as well as suggestions for making the sport more diverse and inclusive.
These recommendations were presented to the Hockey Nova Scotia board of directors in the spring of 2021 where they were unanimously accepted.
Recommendation #6 from the final report was to commit to finding ways to share stories and honour past and current participants from historically marginalized populations.
Hockey Nova Scotia’s This Is Your Game campaign seeks to tell these stories.
