Who we are

For many Nova Scotians, hockey is a big piece of who we are.

From some of the earliest records of the game in Windsor, N.S. to the Mi'kmaq contributions to the sport and the innovations of the Colored Hockey League, the hockey history in our province runs deep.

Formed in 1975, Hockey Nova Scotia is the governing body for all organized hockey in Nova Scotia.

Our organization has evolved from a strictly rules and regulation governing body to a modern network of staff and volunteers that work with more than 30 hockey associations to grow our game and provide opportunities to players of every skill level.

We exist to lead, develop and promote positive hockey experiences.

What we do

We strive to support our member associations in their delivery of programs, for all ages from recreational to elite.

We are the voice for hockey in the province and an advocate for the many benefits of participating in hockey.

We know that hockey is not the sport of choice for every person in this province. But it is our vision that every person who does wish to play has an opportunity to play.

Our vision

Every single Nova Scotian has the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of hockey.

Our areas of focus include:

  • Listening to and knowing our customers
  • Helping to grow and support great hockey associations with an emphasis on: a) improving the experience for people involved (prioritizing FUN); and b) removing barriers to access, promoting diversity and creating inclusive environments.
  • Activating opportunities to use sport as a tool to build life skills and strengthen community
  • Producing more role models through world class, values-based coach education
  • Cultivating partnerships with people and organizations with like-minded values to amplify impact.
